The Einstein Academy at the WYSE regional Academic Challenge
Our High School students recently attended the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) regional Academic Challenge held at ECC. WYSE Academic Challenge is a series of competitive tests on material taken from high school senior and college freshman-level curriculum. There are divisions that separate schools by enrollment.’
The tests include English, biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, engineering graphics, and mathematics. Mr. Kane even gave us some advice for studying for this competition: “A good way to start is doing the previous years’ WYSE tests and pay attention in class,” he says. “Experience also helps. Test taking skills help and come into play.”
Our students, Youssef Butler and Joe Ott, earned 3rd place in Biology, and 2nd place in English, respectively, at this year’s WYSE Regional Competition. “The test was really hard,” Joe said. “Some of the questions take a long time and I did not have a lot of time.” Joe advanced to Sectionals at NIU, where he won a 3rd place medal for English in Division 300.
Mrs. Schlossmann, the head coach of the Einstein Academy WYSE Team, looks forward to competing in next year’s WYSE Academic Challenge.
